Goal 15 : Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
AQC ACTION :
Thanks to an annual mapping of the supply chain, both for exotic leathers (98.2% mississippiensis alligator ; 1.8% other exotic skins, including South African ostriches from certified farms1) and for bovine leathers, AQC identifies for its Members the risks linked to the deterioration of the life on land (deforestation, lack of traceability, species caught in the wild, etc.).
The supply of alligator leather, all bred in the American Southeast, is in full compliance with CITES regulations2. As the International Union for Conservation of Nature stated in a letter to the CEOs of the luxury fashion industry, this supply chain helps to preserve species and their natural habitat.
1. Exotic leathers deliveries to AQC Members in 2021
2. Alligator mississippiensis are listed in CITES appendix II, which lists species that are not necessarily now threatened with extinction, but that may become so, unless trade is closely controlled.
